However, there is a different device required for contactless payments, which allows not just for chip and pin cards to be read, but also use Apple Pay for payments.Īltogether, Square make taking transactions a painless process, and the card reader is both easy to use and simple to work with. Even better is that there are no monthly fees, either. The basic card reader itself is free, and transaction fees are a flat-rate for Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and American Express. Instead it's sent over an encrypted connection for processing, and then that's the processing done. The swiping process is easy, but it's also secure with no card or customer data being stored in your phone. The attachment can then have cards simply swiped through it to be processed. The card reader itself is just a small device that clicks onto your smartphone via a Lightning USB connection for iPhones and iPads, or phone jack connection for Android phones. As with Square's products in general, your mobile device can serve as a checkout and sales center for your retail business, and the card reader remains an integral part of that. Square provides a range of innovative POS solutions, and their mobile card reader continues this policy. There are options to pay a monthly fee in order to reduce transaction fees down to interchange fees only, i.e. Many charge no monthly fee, just transaction fees in the range of 2.5-3.5%. Using nothing more than your smartphone, a downloaded app, and a cheap card reader costing from $25 to $50, you can take payments anywhere there is a cellular network signal. Where mobile credit card processing really comes into its own is its sheer flexibility. The best POS systems can manage your inventory, ensure you're on top of compliance-related payment regulations, and help your business avoid fines and other administrative costs (such as chargeback fraud), all while offering advanced security features that protect from data theft and cyber breaches. They can even be great for small mom-and-pop shops that are looking to keep their initial costs down, and a tablet running apps on a stand can work in lieu of a till.Ĭredit card readers are the front end to your point of sale (POS) system, which can do much more than simply read cards. You don't need a checkout till, you just need a smartphone (opens in new tab) or tablet (opens in new tab) able to run apps that can connect with a mobile card reader. This is where mobile card readers really come into their own for credit card processing, allowing you to take card payments wirelessly and on the go. But what happens if you want to sell at a trade fair, set up a market stall or pop-up shop, or swipe a credit card tableside in a restaurant? Taking card payments is increasingly essential for any modern business too. 1/1/2024 0 Comments Reddit griftlandsIn the first campaign you play as Sal who is back in town and looking for revenge. It can honestly be a lot to wrap your head around, so I will try to explain it the best I can. Griftlands' uniqueness is in its ability to not only let you steer the story, build relationships with NPCs, but also in the fact that you have two decks to manage that can grow and change based on decisions you make throughout the game. You start the game by picking one of three scenarios (you start with one and unlock the other two), in which your main goal is to survive through several days of adventuring until you can defeat the final boss of each encounter. I would describe Griftlands as a rouge-like, deck building, choose your won adventure game. Now I'm here to talk (write) to you (blog) about it and see where it ranks on our list. I told myself that this was a game to keep an eye on, and that name stuck with me that when it finally showed up on Switch, I knew I was going to get it day one. Griftlands was a game that intrigued me the very first time I saw Brad do an early access look at the game. When I draft a card I always imagine that best use for it, and not what it will look like when it shows up in my hand with less than ideal circumstances. That is how I approach deck building games. So, when I would play my brother or his friends, my deck was like 100 cards and theirs would be down to like 40-50. When I got a new card I liked, it went in the deck. I only played a green creature deck and I loved all of the creatures so much that I never trimmed my deck down. The best example I can give is that when I was a kid, 10-12, I played magic with my older brother. I am not great at deck building games, I love playing them, but I am not the type of person who will analyze my deck and perfect it to the point where I only have usable cards. This is an ongoing list where I attempt to do the following: Play, Complete, and Rank every video game in the known universe in order to finally answer the age old question "What is the greatest game of all time?" The 3 blogs I have chosen to tackle, challenged my understanding of What truth actually is? How point of view effects the truth? and What can I do as a filmmaker to achieve the most truthful film? The first steps I took into understanding what truth really is, was to first seek to understand the word. The knowledge I have learnt on this subject matter will play a major role over the rest of my career as I strive to make myself a better filmmaker. As a student filmmaker I never thought to seek out what truth really meant, but over the passing months I have come to realise how much truth isn't actually true, when it comes to documentary making. Over the past month we have been inspired to reflect on the possibility of truth telling in documentary filmmaking. Would love to try filming some videos underwater in the near future but in the mean time, check out the video below to see how it came out. I found the thick glass problematic however when it came to focusing but the camera worked great in the low lighting. It was a fun half an hour shoot and gave me a chance to try out my GH4 for the second time, managing to achieve some half decent shots. Over the past couple of days I have spent the day filming my sister doing a charity shark dive in the Blue Planet Aquarium compiling the shots into a quick short video. Film Analysis Two is not as fun as the rest but I will also be writing a blog on this as well at some point detailing the subject matter I have chosen for the essay we have been set. Commissioning Project was fun and will go into more details what we have got up to in that, in my next blog. Producing is by far my most favourite area and its been an eye opener to how much a creative producer actually does towards a film coming up with an idea, requiring money for the film, legal paperwork, recruitment, shoot scheduling and budgeting, marketing and then distribution to name but a few. I have to admit 2nd year has been the best year so far at the University of South Wales, with the work load being even less than year one arguably but neverless the subjects we are learning now, blow first year out of the water. I've spent the past few months of semester two learning about Producing, Commissioning Work and Film Analysis Two. Hello everyone, sorry I haven't posted in a while, its been a hectic couple of months. 12/31/2023 0 Comments Ranchero underpassIn Electoral Area C (Eagle Bay, White Lake, Tappen, Sunnybrae) Marty Gibbons and Nicholas Najda are vying for the director position. He plans to take a month off before returning to consulting in the new year. 1 Hesperia City Council meeting, Podegracz’s last. “It was a good choice, he’s done great job for us,” Leonard said during the Dec. 2014 to felony corruption in a conflict of interest case in Upland.Ĭouncilman Mike Leonard was one of those who voted to appoint Podegracz to the position in 2005. And Podegracz’s immediate predecessor, Robb Quincey, pleaded no contest in Sept. The city’s first city manager, Robert Rizzo, is now serving 12 years in state prison for his part in corruption in the city of Bell. Not all of Podegracz’s five predecessors in the job have gone out on top. “Ten years is actually an excellent run for a city manager.” “Nationally, (city managers serve) in the five- to seven-year range,” said Kevin Duggan, the West Coast Regional Director of the International City/County Management Association. Podegracz’s tenure is also notable for its length. The city did shutter one of the city’s fire stations, which has since reopened. “We did not lay off any staff, we did not cut any programs and we continued to move forward with our projects.” “We survived the economic recession without major economic cuts,” Podegracz said. Since July 2015, it’s issued 32, according to city spokeswoman Rachel Molina. During the recession, Hesperia went two and a half years without issuing any. At its peak, the city issued 1,700 building permits in a year. New home construction once drove much of Hesperia’s economy. Podegracz is also proud of how the city leaders carefully managed the city’s finances during the Great Recession, which devastated the High Desert and much of San Bernardino County. “I think we were more typical, but those misuses, blatant misuses, get the attention.” Podegracz believes those were well-publicized exceptions to the rule. Jerry Brown shut down the redevelopment process in 2011, saying it was an inefficient process open to abuse. 12/31/2023 0 Comments Obliteration wanderWe argue here that attention should be given to the meaning of the eradication of the Omride palaces. Not only have the palaces’ individual fates not been studied their overall function as active symbols in the establishment and removal of the Omrides has been bypassed. Although this architectural turning point has been noted by many, 7 its social and political implications have not been dealt with in a comprehensive manner. 6Īrchaeological evidence shows that, like the fate of the dynasty’s kings, their palaces in Samaria, Megiddo, and Jezreel suffered a termination that eradicated or entirely changed their presence in the landscape. 3 Yet despite the fact that they brought their newly formed kingdom to a state of political, economic, and military triumph, 4 their rule came to an abrupt end: following the defeat of Joram, son of Ahab, the last Omride king, in the battle of Ramoth-gilead (2 Kings 8:28–29, 9:14–16), 5 Jehu, son of Nimshi, a senior officer in Joram’s army, usurped power in a bloody coup that slaughtered all descendants of the Omride dynasty in Israel (2 Kings 9–10 Hosea 1:4). Dominating royal compounds were established at Samaria, Megiddo, and Jezreel, together with fortresses and smaller royal centers throughout the kingdom. 2 As is usually the case with powerful monarchies, the strength and wealth of the Omrides’ material culture, especially their palatial architecture, played an active role in integrating divergent groups into a single socio-political unit compliant with the new ruling house. 1 The Omrides established their rule over vast territories in the southern Levant in addition to their core territory in the highlands of Samaria (see below), they controlled the northern valleys (Jezreel, Beth-shean, and the Hula Valleys), the lower Galilee, and parts of the Transjordan Plateau. It’s fair to say modern cinema wouldn’t exist as we know it without him.By the early 9th century bc, as the Omride dynasty rose to power, Israel emerged on the historical scene as a territorial entity in northern Canaan it was the culmination of a long process that had already begun in the 11th and 10th centuries. Echoes of Rossellini’s approach to filmmaking are still felt in movements around the world, from China to Iran to South America to the United States. As always, he yearned to show life’s minutiae unadorned, bare and pure. In the final phase of his career, after calling a news conference and announcing, “Cinema is dead,” Rossellini turned to historical television dramas about major subjects and figures (Louis XIV, Blaise Pascal, Descartes, the Medicis), made with a rational, almost scientific approach. Francis), a documentary about India ( India), and a wartime melodrama that was one of his biggest hits ( Il Generale Della Rovere). Through the 1950s, Rossellini experimented with different forms, offering an ascetic religious film ( The Flowers of St. After making films under Mussolini’s fascist regime early in his career, Rossellini broke out with Rome Open City, a shattering and vivid chronicle of the Nazi occupation of Italy’s capital, followed by Paisan and Germany Year Zero, which round out his “war trilogy.” Rossellini’s adulterous affair with Ingrid Bergman led to the biggest controversy of his career (they were both condemned by the United States Senate) but also to another trilogy- Stromboli, Europa ’51, and Voyage to Italy, all starring Bergman and all about spiritual crises they were dismissed at the time of their release but are widely praised now. A founder of Italian neorealism, Roberto Rossellini brought to filmmaking a documentary-like authenticity and a philosophical stringency. 12/31/2023 0 Comments The pretenders christmas songThe official video features Hynde dressed as a member of the Salvation Army in a snowy location. It is one of four songs by The Pretenders listed in the book. Similarly, in Poland the song plays everyday in December as part of the Christmas rotation on RMF FM's RMF Classic.ĭave Marsh, in his 1989 book The Heart of Rock & Soul: The 1001 Greatest Singles Ever Made, ranked "2000 Miles"' as the 630th best rock or soul single to that date. The song frequently reappears in the UK Charts around Christmas time staying in the charts for a few weeks over the Christmas period. "Anything to avoid listening to my voice and my stupid words." " Robbie McIntosh plays beautifully on '2000 Miles'," Hynde recalled. The song raised £8 million for Ethiopia in the 12 months following its release. While many people believe the song's title and lyrics refer to two long-distance lovers who miss each other over the holidays, it was actually written for James Honeyman-Scott, the group's original guitarist, who died the year before the song was released. The result was “Do They Know It’s Christmas?”-a song recorded by a group of famous singers that included Bono, Boy George, George Michael, Sting, and Duran Duran. Irish singer/songwriter/author/actor/activist Bob Geldof was deeply moved by television reports of famine in Ethoipia in the early ’80s, and decided to challenge the pop world to do something about it. “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” – Band Aid (1984) The song refers to Hollis, which is the neighborhood in Queens where the band’s members grew up, and samples tunes like “Frosty the Snowman,” “Jingle Bells,” and “Joy to the World.” The song and video are just as epic today as they were in 1988. While you might not automatically associate rap artists with Christmas songs, RUN-DMC’s 1988 classic “Christmas in Hollis” did its best to smash that stereotype. Many people think that the song is about long-distance lovers, but it was actually written for The Pretenders’ original guitar player, James Honeyman-Scott, who died in 1982. Even though Shane MacGowen’s teeth (or lack thereof) are quite distracting.Īlthough not originally intended as a Christmas song, The Pretenders’ “2000 Miles” is commonly featured on Christmas compilation albums. The Pogues’ and Kirsty MaColl’s still-famous song certainly starts out that way, but it soon takes a turn for the worst with lyrics like “Happy Christmas you arse, I pray God it’s our last.” Despite its slightly dark twist, “Fairytale of New York” remains one of the best Christmas songs out there. Most Christmas songs talk of the joy and happiness of the season. “Fairytale of New York” – The Pogues featuring Kirsty MacColl (1988) The jingling bells, George Michael’s big hair, the snow-covered scenery… the entire song screams “Christmas.” It’s since been covered by numerous artists, from Crazy Frog (yes, really) to Billie Piper (who enjoyed a brief pop career before rocketing to fame on Doctor Who), but none of the subsequent versions hold a candle to the original. No ’80s Christmas song list would be complete without mentioning Wham!’s legendary hit from 1984-85. If you want to mix up your playlist, check out our suggestions and enjoy the season ’80s-style. But the ’80s also produced a variety of Christmas songs that remain popular to this day. The 1980s was a decade known for flamboyance, bright clothes, and movies like The Goonies and Ghostbusters. How anyone could break George Michael’s heart–especially on Christmas–is beyond me |
